Please do remember the Iraqi people in your prayers:
  • Pray for protection for people during the confusion, looting and lawlessness.
  • Pray for the ill who do not have access to sufficent medical care.
  • Pray for those who are grieving family members recently killed.
  • Pray for leaders from all ethnic groups to work together in building a representative government.
  • Pray for healing for all those who have suffered physically and emotionally during years of oppression, sanctions and war.
  • Pray for the 4 million exiles, that many will return and use their skills and wealth to help rebuild Iraq.
  • Pray for a just and peaceful future for all Iraqis.

For Jubilee Iraq, please:

  • Pray that the campaign will build momentum and involve a wide diversity of people and groups.
  • Pray that political leaders in the creditor countries will act justly when considering what to do about their claims.
  • Pray that the resources of Iraq will in future benefit all Iraqis not a local elite or foreign creditors.

For Muslims, Christians and Jews Iraq is a holy land. It was the birthplace of Abraham and the land where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers once watered a garden, called Eden, where the first man and the first woman dwelt. So, in a way, we are all Iraqis and Iraq is the homeland of all humanity. Archeology reveals that Summer and Akad, the region between the two rivers, is the place where the first crops were domesticated, the first cities were established and the first words were written. So, for people of all faiths and none, Iraq is the cradle of civilisation. The Iraqi people have contributed immeasurably to the world and they deserve peace and prosperity in the future.
