November 12, 2007Bulgaria to recieve cash payment of 20% to settle debt ^top^Bulgaria finally signed a bilateral agreement with Iraq matching Paris Club terms on 8 November. Bulgaria will receive a single cash settlement of $360 million from Iraq, representing 20% of its $1.86bn debt claim, the daily newspaper Dnevnik reported. The money will be transferred by mid-2008. Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski said Bulgaria will be the first country to receive its Iraqi debt settlement via a one-time transfer and not via the payments of bonds over a 23-year period as other countries. November 03, 2007Maliki appeals again to arab countries ^top^At the regional conference on Iraq in Istanbul, AFP reports that Maliki issued a renewed appeal to Arab countries to write off Saddam-era debt: "Writing off the debt will undoubtedly help our reconstruction efforts," he said. |
